Know, like and trust

All things being equal, people will do business with those people they know, like and trust. – Bob Burg This is an axiom of business success – one well worth tattooing on your brain – it’s that important.  Think about it – who do you do business with?  Do you give repeat business to people you despise or don’t trust?  Probably not, if you are like the majority of people. As a leader, the question becomes – How do I get the people I work with and the people I do business for to know, like and trust me? We quickly find that there is no set answer to this.  While Mary Ann likes to be coached through her problems, Joe gets resentful whenever a suggestion is offered regarding his work.  Some customers want to be kings, others just want the job done.  We adopt a management method from the latest book, or try to emulate what we’ve heard about Steve Jobs… it works… with some or not at all, but not consistently across the board. In this environment of uncertainty, assessments done with the staff are a revelation.  With a properly-done assessment, we can discover predictable patterns of behavior with our staff – and with ourselves.  We can adapt our management styles in a way that best gets the job done with the specific people we are talking with – in any given  moment. There are four foundational personality types that combine to form our unique styles– each must be worked with differently to get the best results.  We must also understand our own preferences so that we may work on our weaknesses and play to our strengths whenever possible. A round of assessments and a seminar describing the personality types and how to address them can help a business:
  • Get more done in less time
  • Overcome petty in-fighting
  • Boost morale
  • Improve staff retention
